Design notes
Please read THINGS YOU MUST KNOW FOR CNC ROUTING before starting your CNC design. There is a lot of important info in there that you need to know to create correctly formatted design files.
MDF has a thickness tolerance of +/-10% of the material thickness.
MDF is a good substrate for painting or veneering, great for templates and prototyping. Stiff and fairly strong, but will sag over long spans if not properly supported. Edges typically machine cleanly but will require sanding if a smooth or painted surface is desired. Faces are typically smooth but can show some scuff marks, light scratches, or dirt from warehousing and handling. Faces typically require only a light sanding to restore a clean surface. Not for wet or damp locations.
Typical uses
Great for templates, jigs, prototyping, furniture.
Adhesives, joints & fastenings
Glues well with most adhesives that work with wood. Edges can take screws made for man-made sheet materials. Pre-drilling is recommended whenever screwing into MDF.
